The building of the Belgrade Cooperative, also known as Geozavod, is one of the most significant examples of Serbian architecture from the beginning of the 20th century. century. Located at Karađorđeva 48, this monumental palace was built in 1907. as the seat of the Belgrade Cooperative, then the leading Belgrade bank. Architects Andra Stevanović and Nikola Nestorović were inspired by the decorativism of the Paris school, which is reflected in the rich sculptural and decorative plastic of the facade and interior.

During its history, the building suffered damage in both world wars, but was restored each time to preserve its original splendor. In 2014, as part of the “Belgrade on the Water” project, a comprehensive reconstruction of this cultural monument began. Our company had the honor to participate in this venture, performing complete interior works and exterior decoration.

The interior works included the restoration of the original decorative elements, including stucco work on the walls and ceilings, which were originally done by Franja Waldman. Special attention was paid to the restoration of the decorative paintings in the main entrance, the work of Bora Kovačević and Andreja Domenik, as well as the restoration of the glass paintings of R. Marković.

The renovated building of the Belgrade cooperative today serves as a showroom and the headquarters of the company “Belgrade on the water”, symbolizing the beginning of the realization of this ambitious project. This undertaking not only restored its former glory to one of the most beautiful buildings in Belgrade, but also gave new life to a cultural monument of exceptional importance for the history and architecture of Serbia.
